The Largest Inland Empire Employers

Who actually employs the Inland Empire — ranked, with the operational scope and year-over-year direction behind every number.

Logistics now sits at the top of the Inland Empire’s payroll table, and not by a small margin. Amazon’s combined fulfillment, sortation, delivery, and corporate footprint makes it the region’s single largest employer — ahead of either county government, and roughly the size of the two counties’ civilian workforces combined.

But the more telling story is in the trend column. The region’s public school districts — long the dependable anchors of IE employment — are nearly all contracting as enrollment slides, while healthcare systems and the tribal gaming resorts are the consistent gainers. The result is a regional economy quietly trading classroom payroll for hospital beds, distribution docks, and casino floors.
