Redlands Unified cuts 24 more teaching staff, 43 this month
Community Forward Redlands: The Redlands Unified School Board voted 4-0 on May 27 to lay off 24 certificated employees — counselors, teachers, a nurse, and student support staff — at a special meeting that ran about five minutes. The cuts bring confirmed district layoffs this month to 43, after the board finalized 19 classified nonteaching layoffs on May 12.
The district approved plans in January to cut 71 to 91 full-time-equivalent positions, then worked the number down through vacancies and attrition. Only 27 employees got preliminary notices in March; three were later rescinded. An administrative law judge upheld the remaining layoffs on May 19. The cuts take effect on or before June 30, with reemployment rights if positions reopen.
