Riverside County supervisors file De Luz election canvass over citizen group's objections

Riverside Record: The Riverside County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to receive and file the official canvass for the May 5 De Luz Community Services District special election, declining a request from the Riverside Election Integrity Team to delay until a public recount was conducted. The group's audit initially found 10 more votes than ballots; a previously missing ballot collection log — covering 10 ballots dropped at Temecula City Hall and verified as valid — closed the gap, though members said they still could not fully reconcile postal delivery records.

County counsel Minh Tran said the board has a ministerial duty to receive the canvass and no power to order a recount, and that the citizen recount-request deadline passed May 20. Registrar of Voters Art Tinoco hand-recounted the 533 ballots before certifying results May 15.
