Run the Pacific Crest Trail at the Holcomb Valley Trail Run in Big Bear
Run Big Bear: Sat–Sun, June 13–14 · Big Bear Lake · Race distances and registration at runbigbear.com. With the valley forecast to bake, the corridor's classic heat escape is the San Bernardino Mountains — and this weekend Big Bear hosts the 30th Holcomb Valley Trail Run, with races along sections of the Pacific Crest Trail in distances from a 5-miler to a 33-mile ultra. The event is a fundraiser for the local volunteer search and rescue group, which staffs the aid stations and safety operations.
It's part of the larger Big Bear Peaks & Pines weekend, which adds a three-day stage race. Even for non-racers, the trip is the point: at over 6,700 feet, Big Bear runs cooler than the floor of the IE, with the lake, the singletrack, and the village a roughly 90-minute drive up the mountain from the valley.
