Coachella accepting council applications through Tuesday

The Riverside Record: Coachella residents have until 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, to submit applications for the open city council seat. The vacancy followed former Mayor Steven Hernandez's resignation after he pleaded guilty to a felony conflict of interest charge; Mayor Pro Tem Frank Figueroa moved up to mayor, leaving his seat open. Council can either appoint someone to serve through November or call a special election; under state law, it has until June 22 to act or leave the seat open.
