Skechers ends Moreno Valley temp-staffing contract; 725 workers laid off

Patch: TeamOne, the staffing agency that provides temporary workers for Skechers' Moreno Valley warehouse-and-factory-store complex at 29800 Eucalyptus Avenue, notified 725 employees on May 18 that their job assignments end June 13, according to a letter the agency sent to the California Employment Development Department. The cuts followed Skechers ending its staffing agreement with TeamOne for the Moreno Valley site; the letter does not say why the agreement ended.

The split between direct and contingent workforce is the interesting piece. As of Tuesday afternoon, Skechers USA was advertising 19 open positions at the same Moreno Valley facility — direct hires posted at the same time 725 contracted workers were being let go. That gap is a normal feature of how large IE warehouses staff their operations: a smaller core of direct employees plus a flexible contracted layer that scales with volume and contract terms, with the workforce risk sitting on the staffing agency's books rather than the operator's.
